Torque 3D book: Preview and Review
PREVIEW:
I'm currently reviewin a book about Torque3D (recently Torque was released as Opensource engine, and its license is more liberal than other engines like the one of Doom III, so is a good occasion to put your hands dirty with code):
The book is aimed to beginners so no C++ details, only assets pipeline, and lot of scripting recipes for getting stuff done inside torque (review will be added to Packt publishing and to Amazon when I finish to read the book).
REVIEW:
The book is aimed at beginners, the very basics are not covered. There are plenty of practical examples that will help you to learn a lot of usefull little tricks, and maybe even experienced users will learn few things. The most advanced stuff in the book is about the MessageQueue (an essential element in many frameworks and usefull for games), yes asynchronous stuff too is discussed. The book is very script oriented with bites of the pipeline assets, I personally found it a bit verbose, probably this will be usefull for beginner, but more experienced users will see a little lack of conciseness.
4/5 Stars.
